Nanny Dara's/Mary's Homemade Bread - MAB
Procedure:
Pour 7/8 can of evaporated milk into Green Bowl
Add warm water to fill up to 7/8 of Green Bowl (7/8th of green bowl is 7 cups of liquid; evaporated milk and water)
Then add 1 fistful of salt, 2 fistfuls of sugar, 1 1/2 sticks oleo, 1 wet yeast
Pour into roasting pan or huge bowl. Add 5 lbs. or more of flour gradually. Mix well. Knead many, many times.
Let rise in greased pan or bowl for 1 hr.
Press down. Let rise again.
Now shape some into loaves and put into greased pans.
Let rise for 30 min.
Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
Take some dough and make doughboys.
Take some dough and make cinnamon buns or sticky buns.
This usually makes 3-4 loaves of bread besides the doughboys and buns.
I never tried making only loaves.
You may substitute dry yeast for cake yeast, but I feel sorry for anyone who does not have a Green Bowl. There are no substitutions for that!
